How do I get experience?
One of the best ways to start out in the industry is to get some good hands-on experience by looking out for a weekend job in a local estate agent or you could look online at a specialist online estate agency such as Retirementmove who specialise in selling retirement properties.

What qualifications do I need?
Although no formal qualifications are needed to start out, its advisable to look at the National Association of Estate Agency Qualification (NAEA) who are the UK’s leading professional body for estate agents. They offer a wide range of qualifications for estate agents from effective estate agency courses, to conveyancing practice and procedures.


What skills do I need to become a successful estate agent?
To be a successful estate agent, it’s important to have good customer service skills and have a natural rapport with people as sales and negotiation skills are paramount. Lastly, it’s important to have good admin skills and be able to drive a car, this enables you to visit the properties to conduct viewings.

What type of person suits this role?
As this role involves meeting lots of different people, an outgoing, confident and resilient personality is required. It requires someone who can think on their feet, take rejection on a daily basis and still pick themselves up to give 100% the next day.


Where could my career path take me?
If you are new to the industry, it’s a good idea to start off in an admin role to learn the ropes, then move onto a more customer facing role.
