Liverpool’s universally known as the home of the Beatles, so there are many Beatles themed attractions around to visit, such as the Cavern Club where the Beatles performed, the Beatles tour and The Beatles Story Museum which all pull in thousands of tourists each year, so there is always a positive vibe about the city.
Apart from the Beatles Story Museum, there are many other museums to visit in Liverpool, such as the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Museum of Liverpool and the Wirral Transport Museum and Tramway. There are also many beautiful architectural buildings to discover and admire in the city such as the Port of Liverpool Building, St Georges Hall, the Royal Liver Building and Liverpool Town Hall to name just a few!
If you’re over 50 and looking for a club to join to meet new people, Shefton Council have a fantastic comprehensive online directory that includes details of many activities for the over 50’s in the Liverpool area such as lunch clubs, table tennis clubs, golf clubs, crochet clubs, churches, art clubs, general over 55’s clubs and the Botanic Gardens Men’s Society club based in Southport, Merseyside.
How to get around Liverpool
It’s easy to get around Liverpool whether that’s by rail, underground, bus, car, taxi or bike, however, the best mode of transport has to be the ferry where you can take a ride across the Mersey and take in the wonderful views of Liverpool as you travel on the infamous ‘Ferry across the Mersey’ boat made famous by the Beatles song.

Clubs and associations for older people
Liverpool’s lucky to have some great clubs and charities that offer guidance, support and friendship to older people living in the area.
Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton is a charity for the over 50’s and is dedicated to protecting and promoting the wellbeing of people over the age of 50.
Age UK Wirral and Age UK Mid Mersey are independent local charities working with and for older people across the area.
Hospitals and Medical Facilities
Liverpool’s lucky to have over 10 hospitals dotted about the city, including: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital. The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital has a clinical gerontology department, providing services for the elderly with specialist interest in many areas including Parkinson’s disease, cognitive disorders and memory. In addition, there is the Mosley Hill Hospital in Liverpool that also provides services for older people.
